Outrage is mounting after videos emerged showing a female student of Lagos State University (LASU)—who had recently accused her landlord of s*xual harassment and issuing death threats—being forcibly taken away by suspected security operatives.
The disturbing footage, shared by a Facebook user identified as Obi Franklin, shows the LASU student being dragged and bundled into a vehicle by men wearing what appears to be police uniforms, with at least one of them visibly armed with an automatic rifle.
The men reportedly informed neighbours that they were taking her to the Zone 2 police command.
Her current whereabouts remain unknown, sparking fears for her safety.
Franklin, in his post, raised the alarm and tagged various human rights organisations, celebrities, and student groups, including Human Rights Watch, VeryDarkMan, LASU Students Association, and the Nigeria Police Force.
“THE LASU STUDENT THAT HAD A CASE WITH HER LANDLORD TREATS AND OPPRESSION HAS BEEN ARRESTED FORCEFULLY BY MEN DRESSED AS SECURITY OFFICERS WITH ONE WE SEE WITH AN AUTOMATIC RIFLE TO AN UNKNOWN DESTINATION,” Franklin wrote.
“THEY TOLD HER NEIGHBOURS THEY WERE FROM ZONE TWO. PLEASE SHARE UNTIL THE IGP OF POLICE AND THE V.C OF LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY SEE THIS.”
Reports online had shown how the same LASU student posted a chilling video online where she accused her landlord of threatening to kill her for rejecting his s*xual advances.
In the viral video, the visibly distressed student could be heard confronting her landlord, who, in response, allegedly threatened her life.
“You are going to die… If I see you here again…,” the landlord reportedly said, before brazenly suggesting that ₦500,000 could be used to “settle” the matter.
The confrontation reportedly took place at the premises where the student resided.
Popular social media activist, VeryDarkMan, who previously visited the student’s residence in Igando to investigate the matter, confirmed that the landlord operates a sachet water (‘pure water’) factory.
He alleged that the case is not just about s*xual harassment but pointed to broader potential health and safety violations.
“No be only the girl the man wan kpai ooo, na everybody wey dey drink him water he wan kpai,” VeryDarkMan said in a viral video, calling on NAFDAC to urgently inspect the factory.
At the time of filing this report, neither the Lagos State Police Command nor LASU management has issued an official statement on the student’s arrest or her current whereabouts.
