Oluwaseun Lijoke, a Nigerian woman, has shared her experience of being profiled and subjected to suspicion by immigration authorities in the Maldives.
The Agric and non-export finance manager, who disclosed this on Friday, July 18, 2025 said she was made to feel like a risk simply for being a Nigerian despite her extensive travel history.
According to Oluwaseun, she missed her speedboat and had to book a new hotel due to to the extra scrutiny.
“I was held at Maldives immigration for over 2 hours — no explanation.
"Despite showing strong travel history, I was profiled and treated with suspicion… just for being Nigerian.
"My speedboat left. I had to book a new hotel last-minute. Being Nigerian shouldn’t feel like a curse,” she wrote.
