The commission said these guidelines will be strictly enforced at recreational centres, event venues, and clubs in line with sections 95, 362 and 373 of the Bauchi State Sharia Penal Code.

The Bauchi State Hisbah Commission has released a new set of rules against wedding and social gatherings across the state.

It blamed wedding and social gathering for the sharp rise in divorce cases.

According to the commission, the 16 new guidelines are aimed at restoring the moral and spiritual foundation of marriage. Among the banned practices are the use of DJs, gala events, kawayawade, aloba, and other forms of entertainment considered to promote immorality.

The commission said these guidelines will be strictly enforced at recreational centres, event venues, and clubs in line with sections 95, 362 and 373 of the Bauchi State Sharia Penal Code.

While explaining the reason for the move, the commission stated that many marriages collapse due to the removal of baraka, or blessing, right from the early stages. It added that decisions were made after a careful review of cases brought before them.

Instead of organising mass weddings for divorcees, the state government has reportedly trained over 500 women — including some who were previously involved in commercial s3x work — in various entrepreneurial skills to help them become self-reliant.

Imams across the state will also be involved in sensitising residents through mosque teachings. The commission has called on the public to fully comply, adding that its officials are ready for immediate enforcement.
