Popular Activist Slumps, Dies in Lagos

A human rights activist, Comrade Obawolu Adedoja Aanu has passed away.
 
She slumped and d!ed in Lagos.
 
According to sources close to her, Aanu collapsed at the entrance of her residence on Saturday evening after returning from her business premises. Despite immediate efforts to help, she was confirmed dead shortly after.
 
Aanu was widely recognized for her passionate advocacy for social justice and human rights.
 
She was actively involved in several civil society organisations, including the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, and the People’s Conscience, among others.
 
A fellow activist who spoke on condition of anonymity expressed shock over her sudden demise, describing her as a “vibrant, tireless comrade who was deeply committed to the cause of the oppressed”.

“She was returning from her shop when the incident occurred. Her energy and commitment to civil society engagements will be greatly missed,” the source said.
 
Until her death, Aanu was a visible and vocal participant in protest marches, policy dialogues, and grassroots advocacy focused on promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
 
Her unexpected death has left a deep void in Nigeria’s human rights community, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and advocacy groups across the country.
