Retired Police Officer Says He Has Received Only N1.7m Upon Retirement After 35 Years of Service (Video)

The demonstration, led by the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, commenced at the National Assembly Complex and ended at the Force Headquarters.

 
A Nigerian police officer that's now retired has protested poor remunerations.
 
According to him, since he retired from active duty in the Nigerian police force, he only received N1.7 million.
 
This is as retired police officers and other activists on Monday in a protested in Abuja and demanded better welfare and an immediate exit from the contributory pension scheme.
 
The demonstration, led by the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, commenced at the National Assembly Complex and ended at the Force Headquarters.
 
The retirees condemned the contributory pension scheme, calling it “discriminatory” and “exploitative,” and alleged that many of their colleagues had died without receiving their full retirement benefits.
 
Speaking, DSP Godwin Tom said he has received only 1.7 million Naira upon retirement after 35 years of service.
