Diogo Jota, 28, died in a car crash in northern Spain on July 3, just 11 days after marrying his longtime partner, Rute.

Rute Cardoso, the widow of Liverpool star, Diogo Jota, has marked one month wedding anniversary with a touching tribute.

Recall that Diogo Jota, 28, died in a car crash in northern Spain on July 3, just 11 days after marrying his longtime partner, Rute, in a ceremony held in their hometown of Porto.

The couple shared three children: Dinis (4), Duarte (2), and baby Mafalda (8 months).

In a post on Tuesday, July 22, Rute shared three intimate photos from their wedding day. One of them, a close-up of their interlocked hands, was captioned with a short but deeply emotional message: ‘1 month of our ‘until death do us part. Forever. Your white girl’.

Note that the crash also claimed the life of Jota’s brother, Andre Silva, and they were both buried on the same day in their hometown, Gondomar, Portugal.

In the days following the tragedy, Liverpool FC, where Jota had played since 2020, made the rare decision to retire his No. 20 shirt in all competitions, an act done in consultation with Rute and his family.

Jota’s profile now appears in a special “Forever” section on the club’s website, where his legacy is being preserved with the inscription: “He will always be our number 20.”

In a recent private visit to Anfield, Rute was accompanied by Liverpool officials to view a new mural dedicated to Jota near The Kop. She also met with members of the first-team squad, many of whom had grown close to the Portuguese forward during his time at the club.

Before his £41 million transfer to Liverpool, Jota made a name for himself at Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring 44 goals in 131 appearances. Days ago, the Wolves posthumously inducted him into their Hall of Fame.

“Diogo Jota has been inducted into the Wolves Hall of Fame, in a tribute that honours both his remarkable achievements for the club and the deep impact his passing has had on the footballing world,” the club stated.
