Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, the popular Nigerian rapper, who is better known has CDQ has revealed why he quit banking for music.

He explained that he became a banker to fulfill his late father’s wish, but didn’t find fulfillment in the job.

Speaking in a recent interview with the Echo Room, the ‘Nowo Soke’ crooner stated that he decided to quit after he found himself writing lyrics during work hours instead of doing his job.

CDQ shared that his friend, music producer Masterkraft, who was accommodating and borrowing him suits to wear to the bank was shocked when he told him he has quit his job to focus on music.

“I quit my bank job. I couldn’t tell my mother or any family member then. I left the house and went to stay with Masterkraft in the studio. I told him banking isn’t my passion. I will probably just do it to make ends meet. But music is something that whether it gives me a return-back or not, I’m still happy doing it,”
he recalled.

The rapper said he told Masterkraft that they should concentrate on music and there will be a breakthrough within six months.

He stated that their breakthrough came before the six months after they secured a deal and moved out of the ghetto to Lekki.

CDQ gained popularity in 2016 with the release of his hit song ‘Indomie’ featuring Masterkraft and Olamide. The remix version, which featured Davido skyrocketed his fame.
