Chidoka, in a statement on Wednesday faulted the remark, describing it as as a dangerous erosion of democratic values in Nigeria.

An ex-Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has lashed out Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo over his threats to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Speaking in a statement on Wednesday, he described the attack  as as a dangerous erosion of democratic values in Nigeria.

The governor had issued a strong warning Obi, cautioning him against entering the state without prior notification and approval.

The former Aviation boss called the comment, which was made in July 2025 a disturbing pattern of territorial authoritarianism by subnational actors.

Recall that earlier in April, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia had similarly told Obi not to visit internally displaced persons, IDP, camps in the state without prior clearance, citing security concerns.

“These threats are unconstitutional, unlawful, and signal a creeping descent into regional lawlessness,” Chidoka warned.
