The action has attracted condemnation from both residents and other concerned Nigerians, who claimed that the move was more about politics than urban development concerns.

Omoyele Sowore, the Nigerian activist and politician, has criticized the Lagos State government for renaming several streets across the state.

Recall that a video clip currently making the rounds on social media captured officials announcing the renaming of the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop.

The action has attracted condemnation from both residents and other concerned Nigerians, who claimed that the move was more about politics than urban development concerns.

Reacting, Sowore in a statement on Saturday said the development “appears to be part of a xenophobic and divisive agenda, orchestrated to target specific ethnic groups and punish political opponents of the ruling APC regime in Lagos”.

According to him, the manner in which the renamings are being carried out, “leaves no doubt that this is not merely a matter of urban planning, but a calculated political vendetta”.

Sowore insisted that the state doesn’t belong to a specific tribe, calling for the immediate reversal of the action.

“These actions must be reversed.

The public must resist this creeping authoritarianism masked as civic order.

“We will not watch in silence as Lagos is weaponized for tribal, political, or ideological cleansing,”
he added.
