The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has alerted the public to beware of fraudulent websites falsely claiming to offer train tickets for sale online.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Callistus Unyimadu, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the corporation, cautioned that the unauthorised platforms are duping unsuspecting passengers by soliciting payments into personal bank accounts under the guise of being official ticket vendors.
Unyimadu stated that the NRC has no affiliation with the fake platforms, stressing that passengers should only obtain tickets through verified and official NRC channels.
The corporation urged travellers to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with any entity not expressly endorsed by the NRC.
“The NRC wishes to categorically state that these platforms are not affiliated with the Corporation and any payment made through such channels is done at the victim’s risk,” the statement reads.
“Passengers are strongly advised to desist from engaging with these fraudulent sites and must not, under any circumstances, pay into personal or unverified accounts for train bookings.”
"However, the corporation stated that the only authorised online booking portals for its train services are: “Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS): https://nrc-fane.ng, Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS): https://nrc.tps.ng, and Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS): https://nrc.gsds.ng."
The NRC advised the public to confirm the authenticity of any booking platform by visiting its official website — website — www.nrc.gov.ng — or reaching out to its customer service centres.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all our esteemed passengers,” he added.
Unyimadu added that the corporation was working with relevant security agencies to investigate and bring those involved in the scam to justice.
