Kano Transport Commissioner Resigns For Bailing a Suspected Drug Baron

The resignation was announced in a statement he issued on Wednesday.

 
The Kano State Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi has tendered his resignation.
 
He resigned his appointment, hours after Governor Abba Yusuf received the report of an investigative committee probing his alleged involvement in the bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Danwawu.
 
The resignation was announced in a statement he issued on Wednesday.
 
Namadi said his resignation follows the overriding public interest and the sensitive nature of the matter, stressing the commitment to fighting illicit drug sales and consumption.
 
He noted, “As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against drugs, it behoves on me to take the step, as painful as it may be.

The Commissioner, however, insisted that he was innocent in the whole matter, reaffirming his dedication to good governance and responsible leadership.”

The commissioner thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve Kano.
 
Governor Yusuf, while accepting the resignation, said his administration’s stance on justice, discipline and the fight against drug-related crimes.
 
He reiterated the need for political appointees to obtain permission from higher authorities when engaging in public interest issues and as well exercise caution on sensitive matters.
