Police in Niger State have arrested 18-year-old Moses Amarks, a student of the College of Health in Kwamba, Suleja, for allegedly staging his own kidnapping and demanding a N50 million ransom from his mother.

The suspect was said to have conspired with friends to stage the abduction in order to extort money from his parents.

The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement said, “On August 4, 2025, a report was received at the Maje Division that a hidden call was made to a female victim, claiming her son, Moses Amarks, had been kidnapped and demanding a N50million ransom.”

He disclosed that the suspect was tracked to the Zuba motor park in Abuja, where he was apprehended.

Abiodun added that during interrogation, Amarks confessed to working with a friend, Emmanuel Moses (22), a former student of the same school, to plan the fake kidnapping.

He explained that Emmanuel contacted his brother, Jetro, in Kaduna, who provided them with a hideout in Karji village, Sabon-Tasha, where they stayed for six days.

According to Abiodun, the suspect decided to resurface when the ransom was not forthcoming.

The police said investigation is ongoing, while efforts to apprehend Jetro are in progress.
