Recall that Dangote Refinery had announced it would begin petroleum products distribution nationwide on August 15, 2025. However, the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery is yet to launch the scheme, which the oil firm said would cost N1.07 trillion annually.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has explained that truck numbering is the reason Dangote Refinery could not begin its fuel and diesel distribution as scheduled on Friday, August 15, 2025.

The National President of IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi, disclosed this to Daily Post in an interview on Friday.

Recall that Dangote Refinery had announced it would begin petroleum products distribution nationwide on August 15, 2025. However, the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery is yet to launch the scheme, which the oil firm said would cost N1.07 trillion annually.

Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery has stated that it has received the supply of its N720 billion worth of compressed natural gas trucks.

Reacting to the development, Maigandi stressed that Dangote Refinery is currently numbering its trucks and will commence the scheme in a week’s time.

He reiterated that the scheme, when it begins, will further lead to a reduction in fuel prices.

“I spoke with the management; right now they are doing the numbering of the trucks. Immediately they are done; in a week, they will begin the direct-to-customers fuel distribution scheme.

“The scheme will bring down the petrol price because petroleum marketers will no longer bear the logistics cost,”
he told Daily Post.

However, the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria have opposed the Dangote Refinery initiative, citing massive job losses.
