The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, Prof. Olowo Samuel, has attributed the recent campus k!lling to the activities of internet fraudsters, commonly called “Yahoo Boys,” and intruders who illegally gained access to the institution.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Prof. Samuel clarified that the victim of the k!lling was not a student of AAU, contrary to speculation circulating on social media.

Prof. Samuel said some intruders forcibly gained access to the university.

He explained that one of such incidents involved the k!lling of an unidentified person.

According to him, police reports confirmed that the man was not a student of the institution.

He was brought in a vehicle, assaulted in front of one of the hostels, and later taken to the bush, where he was k!lled.

The VC disclosed that several suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident and handed over to the State CID in Benin City for further investigation.

He further lamented that fraudulent individuals had been using the university environment as a hideout for internet fraud operations.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the institution had “recently” witnessed cases of “intruders” forcing their way into the campus.

“Some unscrupulous people have turned the university environment into a hideout for ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ operations,”
he said.

He described the situation as “unacceptable,” noting that it was one of the reasons management decided to “increase security” on campus.

He added that students had also been barred from “driving into” the compound to ensure everyone’s safety.
