The Ondo State High Court in Akure has sentenced two men, Tosin Omoniyi Deji and Ojo Rotimi, to de@th by hanging for armed robbery.

In a judgement delivered by Justice W. R. Olamide, the court held that the prosecution, through the testimonies of five witnesses who were direct victims, proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The offences were committed on June 2 and June 5, 2022, at Alade Idanre, Ondo State.

The judge noted that while the defendants failed to present any witnesses in their defence, the evidence against them was overwhelming.

Deji was convicted of burglary and attempted r3pe, for which he received 14 years’ imprisonment on each count, in addition to a d3ath sentence for armed robbery.

His accomplice, Rotimi, was equally convicted and sentenced to d3ath by hanging for armed robbery.

Justice Olamide stressed that the severity of the crimes and the clear evidence presented by the prosecution warranted the sentences imposed.
