According to NupekoTv-Lafiagi, local sources said Kakafu regained his freedom on Friday evening, between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., following the payment of a ransom by his family.

Alhaji Usman Kakafu, a notable resident of Kakafu community in Patigi Local Government Area, Kwara State, has been released by his abductors more than a month after being kidnapped.

Kakafu was reportedly kidnapped on July 19, 2025.

According to NupekoTv-Lafiagi, local sources said Kakafu regained his freedom on Friday evening, between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., following the payment of a ransom by his family.

The exact amount paid was not disclosed.

His release has brought immense relief to his family and the wider Kakafu community, who had endured weeks of fear and anxiety since his abduction on July 20, 2025.

The incident had further highlighted the worsening security situation in Kwara North, where repeated kidnappings for ransom have continued to terrorise residents.

While his safe return is being celebrated, community members say the region remains under siege by criminal gangs, leaving many to live in constant fear of renewed attacks.

Once known for its quiet towns and peaceful farmlands, Kwara State has recently found itself in the crosshairs of terror.

What began as scattered incidents has now escalated into a full-blown security emergency, with bandits and terrorist networks tightening their grip on both Kwara North and South.

In the northern axis, communities like Lade, Wariku, and Lata Woro have been repeatedly attacked. Even after the arrest of notorious terror kingpins—Mahmud Mohammed Usman (aka Abu Baraa) and his deputy Mallam Mamuda—the violence didn’t subside.

Instead, remnants of their network intensified operations, launching fresh assaults that left residents dead, kidnapped, or fleeing for their lives.
