Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has petitioned the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), seeking disciplinary action against three senior judges over alleged gross judicial misconduct in his ongoing trial.

Kanu, in a petition that he personally signed, accused Justices Binta Nyako, Haruna Tsammani, and Garba Lawal of committing a miscarriage of justice. The petition was made available to journalists on Sunday through one of his lawyers, Umesi.

Naija News reports that Kanu, who has been in custody at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja since his extraordinary rendition from Kenya in June 2021, outlined what he described as “a catalogue of infractions” committed by the judges in handling his case.

According to him, the alleged misconduct by the trio “now stands as an unerasable blot on Nigeria’s legal conscience.”

The IPOB leader urged the NBA, currently meeting in Enugu, to investigate the matter and impose appropriate sanctions on the judges involved.

He further urged the Association to “publish a report condemning the use of civil procedures to subvert criminal law, and the resurrection of repealed statutes.”

Kanu also demanded that the NBA affirm that “no Nigerian should ever again be detained by abduction or tried under a repealed law,” stressing the need to hold “erring judges accountable to restore public confidence in the Bar and the Bench.”
