A Nigerian man has gone online to share a piece of advice he just received from his lawyer concerning car documents.

According to him, his lawyer warned that police officers in Nigeria have no legal right to demand car particulars from drivers.

He claimed the lawyer told him that only Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) — the officials in white uniforms — are empowered to check such documents.

The man added that even FRSC officers should not be given car particulars, stressing that a court ruling has upheld this position.

He quoted his lawyer as saying that many police officers only intimidate drivers into showing documents because most people are unaware of their rights.
