Ex-Convict Nabbed By Residents While Allegedly Attempting To Break Into A Shop In Akure

Residents of Hospital Road in Akure, Ondo State, apprehended an ex-convict who was allegedly attempting to break into a shop near Aquinas College.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was caught on Friday morning, August 29, 2025.

He was said to be carrying iron rods alleged to have been stolen from women who usually sell their wares under umbrellas along the road.

Upon interrogation, the man reportedly confessed that he was an ex-convict who had only recently regained his freedom from prison. He further claimed to be a commercial motorcyclist.

However, some motorcyclists at the scene dismissed his claim, describing him as one of the criminal elements denting the reputation of hardworking riders in the city.

The residents subsequently called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that the suspect is returned to prison to avert further crimes.
