The protesters blocked the entrance to the Ministry of Finance during business hours on Wednesday, denying members of staff access to the building and their offices.
Many members of the Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria staged a protest in Abuja on Wednesday over unpaid contracts executed for the federal government.
The protesters blocked the entrance to the Ministry of Finance during business hours on Wednesday, denying members of staff access to the building and their offices.
The Minister of Finance and his convoy who arrived during the protest, were also not allowed to enter the premises through the main gate.
The protesters displayed placards condemning the delay in payment and subsequent actions of the government.
The placards read, “you cannot grow the economy by starving its builders”, National Assembly is folding their arms watching Nigerian contractors suffer injustice”.
However, a few moments after the minister accessed his office using an alternative gate, the protesters insisted on him addressing them.
They rejected overtures by the permanent secretary who had come out to speak on behalf of the minister, demanding the minister’s presence.
The contractors are demanding the immediate payment of monies owed them for projects completed since 2024.
