Kogi Community Stage Protest Over Insecurity

The protest came on the heels of the killing of three police officers by unknown gunmen at a checkpoint in the community.

 
Residents of Egbe community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi state have protested against insecurity in their community.
 
The residents took to the streets yesterday, September 11 to stage a protest, calling on government to intervene.
 
Egbe, which shares a border with Kwara State, had long been known as one of the most peaceful and industrious communities in Kogi West, but the recent incidents have left the town on edge.
 
The protest came on the heels of the killing of three police officers by unknown gunmen at a checkpoint in the community. The state police public relations officer, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the k!lling of the police officers by assailants.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that three of our officers on duty were killed today in Egbe; a border community with Kwara State, by yet to be identified gunmen,” SP Aya said.
 
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, had immediately deployed a tactical squad to the area in pursuit of the attackers.

“The Commissioner of Police has deployed a tactical squad to the area. We are currently on the trail of these men of the underworld and they will all be arrested,” he assured.
