In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fubara said the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu had been challenging but ultimately allowed all parties to reconcile.

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that he and former governor, now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, have reconciled their political differences, calling it a significant move toward lasting peace in the state.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fubara said the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu had been challenging but ultimately allowed all parties to reconcile.

“In the course of the six-month period, Mr. President graciously brokered the peace process with all the parties successfully. Our Leader, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and I, as your Governor, have all accepted to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear Rivers State,” he said.

The governor’s return follows the lifting of a six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025, which saw Fubara, his deputy, and the Rivers State House of Assembly suspended amid a political and legislative crisis.

The emergency lasted until mid-September, at which point democratic governance was restored.

During the crisis, a peace deal was brokered with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, ending their public rift.

The governor’s announcement comes amid lingering political tensions in Rivers, which have seen repeated clashes between rival factions loyal to him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
