ICAN Reacts to Viral Video of Suspected Proxies Caught Impersonating During Professional Examinations

Reacting, ICAN, said its examination processes are anchored on global standards of integrity, and any attempt to compromise them would be met with serious disciplinary measures.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has reacted to a viral video of showing two proxies caught impersonating candidates during one of its professional examinations.
 
The video showed a man identified as Kay (name withheld) apprehended and was alleged to be sitting on behalf of a bank manager.
 
A female impersonator was also caught within the examination hall. When interrogated, she alleged that she was sitting in for a government official in Taraba state.
 
Reacting to the viral video, the institute in a statement signed by its Registrar/Chief Executive, Lanre Olasunkanmi, said its examination processes are anchored on global standards of integrity and any attempt to compromise them would be met with serious disciplinary measures.
 
“ICAN wishes to state unequivocally that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for all forms of examination malpractice, including impersonation.
 
The Institute’s examination processes are guided by globally accepted standards of integrity, and any attempt to compromise them is treated with utmost seriousness,” Olasunkanmi said.
 
He disclosed that the body had commenced a thorough investigation into the allegation and would apply appropriate sanctions in line with its regulations.
 
“In line with this commitment, ICAN has commenced a thorough investigation into the matter. Appropriate disciplinary measures will be applied in accordance with established regulations, and the findings will be communicated transparently to stakeholders,” Olasunkanmi added
