Each of the Ogoni leaders was conferred with the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) honour.
President Bola Tinubu has announced the conferment of posthumous National Honours on four “Ogoni heroes.”
President Tinubu conferred the honours at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja when he received the report on the Ogoni Consultations from the Dialogue Committee, which is comprised of key stakeholders of Ogoniland, led by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Those conferred with the national honours are:
(1) Chief Edward Kobani (CON)
(2) Chief Albert Badey (CON)
(3) Chief Samuel Orage (CON)
(4) Chief Theophilus Orage (CON)

Earlier in the year, the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the development of Ogoniland, listing various efforts by the current administration to improve the lives of the people.
According to Momoh, Tinubu is determined to foster peace and initiate economic activities in Ogoniland, Rivers State.
Momoh highlighted President Tinubu’s inclusive approach, revealing that during a recent meeting, Tinubu directed the National Security Adviser (NSA) to facilitate reconciliation among factions in the region.
In a move to demonstrate inclusiveness, Tinubu recently signed into law the establishment of the Federal University of Environment in Ogoniland.
