Wakil said during interrogation, the teacher claimed that he tied the minor up to prevent him from running away from the school.
An Almajiri teacher, Lawal Nasiru has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old pupil in the Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
This is according to the Bauchi State Police Command.
The spokesperson of the command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 said the suspect was arrested for criminal assault, causing hurt, cruelty to a child and wrongful confinement.
According to the PPRO, the suspect tied the victim, Sa’id Sani, with a heavy rope for a long time and beat him with a heavy stick and thick cable, leaving him with multiple injuries in his hands and legs.
Wakil said during interrogation, the teacher claimed that he tied the minor up to prevent him from running away from the school.
“On the 22nd September 2025 at about 1600hrs, one Idris Mohammed 'm' aged 50yrs of Gidan waya Darazo attached to social welfare Darazo in accompany of a minor named Sani Abdullahi 'm' aged 11yrs of Nahuta Katsina State, reported at the Divisinal Police Headquarters Darazo that on 21st September 2025 at about 1300hrs, one Lawal Nasiru 'm' aged 28yrs, of Unguwar Jarmai Darazo criminally used a heavy rope and inhumanely tight the said Sani (a minor) Almajiri attached to his Tsangaya School and used heavy stick and thick cable beat and injured him, as a result he sustained various degrees of injuries in his hands and legs,” the statement read.
"Upon receipt of the report, a team of policemen led by DPO Darazo, SP Auwalu Ilu, was drafted to the scene of the crime and arrested the suspect.
"Meanwhile, the victim was taken to General Hospital Darazo for a medical examination.
"During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have committed the offence, and stated that the boy was trying to run from the (Tsangaya) school, and if he ran away, they didn't know where the pupil would go; that is why he tied him with a rope before his parent came.
"The minor who was victimised was also interviewed, and revealed how the suspect mercilessly confined him for a long time (tied him with a thick rope) for a reason known to the suspect.
"The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc (+), mni, directed that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation.
“Investigation is ongoing after which the suspect will be profiled and charged to court for the established offence.”
