Comedian Alibaba has opened up that he believes in polygamy.

He stated this while speaking in an interview with media personality Nedu.

Alibaba explained that having more than one wife can help maintain peace in a home, as it encourages cooperation and reduces the likelihood of conflict.

“Some people feel if it’s only one wife, you may not be able to control the wife,” he said. “But if the wife knows that you have more than one, she will calm down because she knows that if she misbehaves, another person is available.”

He also pointed to historical practices in places like Ibadan, where women sometimes encouraged their husbands to marry additional wives to prevent infidelity and keep the family united.

“I actually know of a woman in Ibadan who encouraged her husband to be a polygamist. Most of them back then would marry a young girl and gift her to the husband because they didn’t want the man to have concubines,” he added.

Alibaba further highlighted traditional customs where widows with young children were sometimes married to a brother-in-law to ensure the children were cared for — another example, he said, of how polygamy could serve a social purpose.

He concluded by acknowledging that not everyone agrees with polygamy, but maintained his belief that in certain contexts, it remains a functional and culturally relevant practice.
