The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the arrest of two former officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, for allegedly using the agency’s identity to commit fraudulent activities.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the DSS said the duo, who were earlier dismissed from the agency, had been “cloaking under the Service to engage in fraudulent activities.”

The statement read, “Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) recently issued disclaimers on two dismissed personnel of the Service, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin.

"These individuals were alleged to be cloaking under the Service to engage in fraudulent activities.”

According to DSS, the suspects have been apprehended and will face legal consequences for their actions.

“The public is hereby notified that these culprits have been apprehended and will face prosecution in accordance with the law,”
the DSS said.

The agency further revealed that it plans to make public the identities of other previously dismissed officers to protect unsuspecting members of the public from falling prey to similar schemes.

“The Service has further resolved to publish the names of other personnel who were dismissed in the past, to prevent citizens from falling victim to possible criminal intent of any of these individuals,”
the statement added.

On October 9, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that the DSS issued a warning to the public about a dismissed staff member, Barry Donald, who was allegedly using the Service's name to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

In a disclaimer shared on its official X handle, the DSS advised the public to refrain from any dealings with Donald, who is reportedly engaging in unscrupulous activities.

On October 13, SaharaReporters reported that the DSS alerted the public to the activities of a dismissed staff member, Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, who was allegedly using the name of the Service to deceive and defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

In a public disclaimer posted on the Service’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, the DSS warned that Godwin has been engaging in unscrupulous acts under false pretenses of representing the agency.

The DSS urged citizens to exercise caution and avoid any dealings with Godwin or anyone claiming affiliation with the Service without proper verification.
