Former Nigerian defender Sam Sodje has stated that the current first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, is becoming overconfident.

Sodje made this comment while speaking on Brila FM’s ‘No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze’.

This comes amid rumours that Nwabali’s place in the Super Eagles is under threat.

Nwabali has been criticized in recent times for making a couple of errors, some of which have led to goals.

The head coach, Eric Chelle, is believed to be exploring options ahead of November’s 2026 World Cup playoffs.

“When you have players like Stanley, the way he plays, talks and carries himself, there is a difference between being confident and having a bad attitude,”
Sodje said.

“If the coach feels like Stanley will cost us the game, you better make the change now before it is too late.

“He has been giving us signs that he will do something stupid soon. This is where a psychologist comes in.”
