This isn’t the first time the Actors Guild of Nigeria has disciplined its members over misconduct.

Actor Maradona Johnson has been expelled from the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) .

The Lagos Chapter of AGN announced his expulsion over what it described as “persistent acts of misconduct, constitutional violations, and deliberate attempts to destabilise the peace and order of the Guild.”

According to a statement signed by the chapter’s chairman, Ashiedu Gabriel, the decision followed a resolution reached at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting attended by the Board of Trustees (BOT) chairman, national executives, and state chairmen, Premium Trust reported.

The guild accused Johnson of inciting division among members, tarnishing the AGN’s image, and allegedly serving as a board member of a parallel and illegal association. He was also accused of undermining constituted authorities, gross insubordination, and deliberately distancing himself from the chapter’s activities.

The statement read in part: “Mr Johnson’s actions were detrimental to the unity, integrity, and progress of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. The guild will not condone any further acts of sabotage or indiscipline.”

As a result, Johnson has been barred from participating in or benefiting from any AGN Lagos activities, privileges, or platforms. His name will also be struck out from all official guild records.

The guild further warned him against impersonating or interfering in AGN matters, adding that any such act would attract legal and disciplinary consequences. Copies of the expulsion notice have been sent to all relevant AGN national and state structures for enforcement.

This isn’t the first time the Actors Guild of Nigeria has disciplined its members over misconduct.

In 2025, the guild suspended actress Shirley Igwe indefinitely for allegedly slapping a crew member during a film shoot — citing “violence and professional indiscipline.”

Similarly, in previous years, several actors, including Don Pedro Aganbi, Stella Marris, and Fred Ekata, were suspended for “anti-guild activities.” Veteran actor Emeka Ike was also reportedly banned in 2010 for alleged misconduct and sponsoring thugs to threaten guild officials.

The AGN leadership reiterated that it remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and order within the Nigerian movie industry.
