President of PENGASSAN, Festus Osifo, made this revelation on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN has revealed that if 15% import duty on petrol and diesel had been implemented, petrol price would have increased by at least N130.

The revelation was made by President of PENGASSAN, Festus Osifo on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television.

Recall that the Nigerian Government suspended the implementation of a 15 per cent import duty on premium motor spirit and automotive gas oil.

Reacting, Osifo said, “The suspension of the 15% import duty on PMS and diesel is no coincidence.

“The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has been working behind the scenes to ensure this outcome.

“Currently, local refineries are meeting at best only 40% of Nigeria’s daily demand.

“If this duty was followed through, local producers would also have also reviewed their prices upward.”
