Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has been seen reprimanded a Federal Fire Service officer after discovering that the water tank on one of the agency’s fire trucks was only half-filled.
He warned that such negligence was intolerable, particularly during the harmattan season when fire incidents are more frequent and potentially devastating.
Visibly displeased, the minister told the officer that firefighters must remain fully prepared at all times and position themselves near high-risk, high-traffic areas where emergencies could arise without warning.
He rejected what he described as excuses for the team’s lack of readiness.
According to him, firefighters, like every public official, including himself, are funded by taxpayers and are not paid to be docile.
He stressed that their duty is to be alert, equipped, and strategically positioned to respond immediately whenever lives and property are at risk.
