Reed said she spent $170 on professional makeup, only to arrive at an upscale restaurant where her date, despite making the reservation himself, showed up in a jogging suit and could not gain entry.
Popular content creator, Brenique Reed has gone viral on social media and has gotten many people debating after unveiling a new dating rule: requiring a $100 refundable deposit from any man who wants to take her out.
The rule was inspired by a disastrous first date that left her frustrated but undeterred.
Reed said she spent $170 on professional makeup, only to arrive at an upscale restaurant where her date, despite making the reservation himself, showed up in a jogging suit and could not gain entry.
“You made the reservation. You said you’ve been here before—and you put on a jogging suit for a first date? If you wanted something casual, you should’ve said meet me at Starbucks or Chipotle,” she said in her video.
Not letting the effort go to waste, Reed moved the evening to the bar, enjoying sushi, a French 75, and a lively conversation with another acquaintance. She later had a second date planned that night with a man who “always dresses the part.”
Her new rule is clear: “If a man wants to take me on a date moving forward, I require a $100 refundable deposit. If you show up and do the little things—like getting into the place you picked—your money will be returned before we leave.”
Reed emphasized the rule isn’t about the money: “Let’s be clear—I have my own coins. This is about valuing time and effort.”
Reed appears to be embracing the viral attention, hinting at “a little hooting and hollering later,” while the debate over her $100 policy continues to trend.
