A 37-second video circulating online has shown a Nigerian Naval officer instructing a driver in Lagos to remove an unauthorized ‘NAVY’ sticker from a red sedan.
The video shows the officer instructing the motorist to peel off the sticker, counting down from five as the driver protested that he had done nothing wrong.
The officer insisted that civilians must not display military identifiers.
The Defence Headquarters banned the use of military-style stickers on civilian vehicles in 2024, citing rising impersonation cases by criminals using such identifiers to evade security checks. Police formations across the country were directed to enforce the order.
Lagos State Police had also warned residents in October 2024 to avoid using the stickers, stressing that enforcement is vital for public safety and crime prevention.
