Turaki, in company with some executive members of his faction of the National Working Committee, arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL, at exactly 11:27 am on Saturday.
Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, SAN, has revealed the reasons behind his visit to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday.
Earlier, Tori News reported that Turaki, in company with some executive members of his faction of the National Working Committee, NWC, as well as former Governor Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, ex-Governor of Plateau, Jonah Jang, among other party leaders, arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL, at exactly 11:27 am on Saturday.
He immediately went into a closed door meeting with Obasanjo.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the meeting which lasted about 40 minutes,Turaki said the visit was aimed at getting Obasanjo’s support and guidance in leading the party successfully and dislodging the All Progressives Congress in 2027.
He pointed out that while the task of removing the APC government in 2027 due to their incompetence and poor management may not be simple, the candid conversation with the former President has further inspired them that the mission at hand is not impossible.
The former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs under former President Goodluck Jonathan described Obasanjo as a highly experienced elder statesman and former President under the PDP administration whose legacy of building strong institutions has helped to strengthen democratic growth in the country.
He said, “As the newly elected PDP leadership during our recent congress at Ibadan, we came to introduce ourselves to our father, the former President under the PDP administration, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
“We came to thank the former President for his vision and contributions to strengthening our democracy and good governance while he was in power. We came to thank him for helping to build strong institutions which the country is enjoying till today.
“We have also come to see the former President to draw inspiration from him as an oracle, we have come to get guidance, we have come to get advice, we have equally come to get critical support because if we must succeed in the gargantuan assignment that has been thrust upon our shoulders, then we must come to people like Chief Obasanjo who have the prerequisite experience.
“We realized more than ever before now that yes, the task before us may not be an easy one but from the inspiration and guidance that we have received from Baba today, we are more than ready to go all the way and take PDP back to the seat of power come 2027.”
Turaki stated that PDP is battle ready for 2027, noting that it would be more obvious when the party claims victory in the coming gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun states.
“By the time we win these two states we shall leave no one in doubt that PDP, once again, is on the move. PDP is on the rise to chase out the APC government with all its incompetence and maladministration in 2027,” he added.
In their separate remarks, the party’s National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja, and BOT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, urged the party’s members to stay united and start widespread mobilisation to restore the party to power in order to carry on its legacy of excellent governance and generous welfare for the populace.
