The abduction reportedly occurred around 10:30pm on Saturday, December 21, at the Bunyun axis of Wase LGA.

Gunmen, believed to be Plateau militias, have abducted 12 Muslim worshippers traveling to attend Maulud prayers in Gaji village, Bashar District, Wase Local Government Area.

The abduction reportedly occurred around 10:30pm on Saturday, December 21, at the Bunyun axis of Wase LGA.

According to SaharaReporters, it was gathered that the victims were travelling in a vehicle to Gaji village for the Maulud prayers when armed men intercepted them and whisked them away to an unknown destination.

A resident of Zak village, who reported the incident on December 22, said security operatives later visited the scene as efforts were intensified to locate the abducted persons and identify those responsible for the attack.

Meanwhile, the police said investigations were ongoing and assured residents that all necessary measures were being taken to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted persons.

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bashar visited the scene of the incident, while efforts were intensified to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators,”
a police source said.

A security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident on Tuesday, said the latest abduction has revived painful memories of previous de@dly attacks on travellers in Plateau State.

He recalled the June 2025 massacre in Mangu Local Government Area, where at least 12 travellers from Basawa in Zaria LGA of Kaduna State were brutally k!lled by a mob.

In that incident, an 18-seater bus belonging to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, conveying 31 passengers to a wedding ceremony, was attacked around 8:00 p.m., leaving 12 people de@d on the spot and 11 others injured.

The attack attracted widespread condemnation and calls for justice. However, months later, little has been heard about the case, with reports suggesting that some of the alleged perpetrators were granted bail by a court.

Similarly, in August 2021, no fewer than 22 travellers returning from the commemoration of the Islamic New Year in Bauchi State were k!lled in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, underscoring a disturbing pattern of violence against commuters.
