The former minister says that Jollof rice originated from Senegal and was a food meant for prisoners at the time.

Lai Mohammed, a former Minister of Information, has shared the origin of Jollof rice.

The former minister says that Jollof rice originated from Senegal and was a food meant for prisoners at the time.

While speaking on Channels TV on Tuesday, December 23, Mohammed who served in the Buhari-led administration, said: ‘’When you look at the origin of jollof, it is actually from the word Wollof from the Senegalese.

"Jollof Rice was actually prepared for prisoners because it was that food put in one plate, oiled, salt and everything, so the origin of jollof is wollof.

"Later, it must be a UN tourism that came out on wikipedia and said the origin of jollof is Wollof ‘’
