A resident of Jabo town in Tambuwal Local Government Area, Sokoto State, has described the fear they experienced following a powerful blast believed to be caused by a US airstrike.
According to Daily Post, one of the residents, Abubakar Umar Jabo, said that the incident happened late on Friday night, just as people were preparing to go to bed.
He said they first thought an aircraft was crashing because of the loud noise and bright light in the sky.
According to him, the sound was so close and intense that many people rushed outside, afraid the object might fall directly on their homes.
He explained that within a few seconds, they saw a flash of light, followed by a heavy impact that shook the area.
He added that residents were relieved it did not hit the town directly.
Earlier, Tori News reported that the United States carried out an airstrike in Nigeria on Friday night, but no casualties were recorded from the incident.
Jabo further explained that after the object hit the ground, it created a deep hole and sparked a strong fire that burned for about one and a half hours.
The heat was so intense that people feared the fire might be spreading underground.
He said soldiers later arrived at the scene and stopped residents from going close, warning that the situation could still be dangerous.
Many people, he added, remained scared because they had never seen such a fire or explosion before.
The incident left the community shaken, with residents spending the night in fear and confusion as they tried to understand what had happened.
