The Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District, Senator Kelvin Chukwu, has been captured on video physically ass@ulting one of his constituents, whose identity has not been disclosed.

SaharaReporters obtained a video of the ass@ult which took place during a football competition organised by the lawmaker.

The tournament began in December 2025, with the final match held on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

The attack happened as an armed security operatives attached to Chuckwu looked on.

Another video obtained by SaharaReporters also showed one of the security details of the Senator ass@ulting the constituent.

He was subsequently arrested and detained despite the physical ass@ult on him by Chukwu and security operatives attached to him.

In one of the videos, the Senator who appeared visibly angry was seen engaging in a heated exchange with the constituent before an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) physically ass@ulted him.

Chukwu also ran after him outside the football pitch and slapped him.

“Senator Kelvin Chukwu slapped one of the players in his village Christmas competition in Amurri after a little disagreement,”
a source who witnessed the incident told SaharaReporters.

“For the past years, he has not done anything for the community. He came this December to organise a football competition because elections are close.”

The lawmaker recently defected from the Labour Party (LP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).

LP had given him its ticket following the assassination of his elder brother Oyibo Chukwu on February 22, 2023.

Following the killing, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rescheduled election into the Enugu East Senatorial District to March 18, 2023 to enable the party nominate a fresh candidate for the election.

Chukwu contested for the nomination of the party, getting 223 votes to beat his three rivals who got zero votes.

In the general election, Chukwu polled 69,136, defeating the then incumbent senator and former governor of Enugu State Chimaroke Nnamani who got 48,701 votes.
