U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States may carry out further military strikes in Nigeria if attacks on Christian communities persist.

Trump issued this warning during an interview with the New York Times, which was published on Thursday.

He was reacting to the US military strike in Nigeria on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, the US military has insisted that it carried out the operation with the consent of the Nigerian government.

Nigeria said then that the strike was a “joint operation” targeting “terrorists,” and had “nothing to do with a particular religion.”

“I’d love to make it a one-time strike… But if they continue to kill Christians, it will be a many-time strike,” Trump was quoted as saying.

The US President equally said that Muslims were being killed also in Nigeria, but stressed that it is mostly Christians.
