The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) in India has deported a Nigerian national after receiving credible intelligence about his illegal stay and alleged involvement in unlawful activities.
The Nigerian identified as Obasi James Victor (38), was repatriated to his home country early on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
According to Vaibhav Gaikwad, DCP, H-NEW, Victor arrived in India on a tourist visa through Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Dec 31, 2011.
He was initially involved in a cloth export business to Nigeria and later established a restaurant in Delhi under the name ‘William African Restaurant.' He had been residing in Delhi with his family.
Police stated that Victor's passport and visa had expired several years ago, after which he continued to stay in India illegally.
During this period, he allegedly came into contact with drug peddlers and was suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
The action followed his detection in Tolichowki last month, where he was found moving under suspicious circumstances.
When questioned, he failed to produce valid travel or residential documents or provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence in Hyderabad.
During interrogation, he admitted that he did not possess a valid passport or visa and had overstayed in India after its expiry.
Subsequently, H-NEW initiated deportation proceedings in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Hyderabad.
As his original travel documents were no longer valid, an Emergency Travel Document was obtained from the Nigerian High Commission.
An exit permit was also secured from FRRO, Hyderabad. Authorities arranged his travel from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Lagos, Nigeria.
The DCP said that the deportation was undertaken to prevent the foreign national from engaging in activities considered detrimental to national security.
