This was disclosed in a statement by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The Rivers State Assembly loyal to Nyesom Wike has received a reprieve, as the State High Court in Oyigbo refused to grant a perpetual injunction that sought to prevent the Chief Judge, Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, from acting on impeachment petitions filed by lawmakers against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Ordu.

This was disclosed in a statement by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to Olayinka, the presiding judge ruled that the court could not issue the requested order, noting that the matter is already before the Court of Appeal. The judge subsequently adjourned the case indefinitely, pending the determination of the appeal.

The development means that the High Court will take no further action on the matter until the appellate court delivers its judgment on the issues surrounding the impeachment process.

Recalls that Justice Amadi had declined to constitute a seven-member panel to act on the Assembly impeachment, citing court orders.

The Rivers Assembly, led by Amaewhule, served Fubara an impeachment notice and confirmed that the chief judge received the notice.
