Nanyah, a fast-rising vocalist who gained attention after appearing on The Voice Nigeria, reportedly suffered the snake bite on Saturday morning.
The brother of the late Nigerian singer Ifunanya Nwangene, known as Nanyah Music, has revealed details of her final moments following a snake bite at her home in Abuja.
Nanyah, a fast-rising vocalist who gained attention after appearing on The Voice Nigeria, reportedly suffered the snake bite on Saturday morning.
Her brother, Kingsley Nwangene, said she contacted him around 8:30 am to inform him of what had happened while she was already heading to a hospital on her own.
According to him, Nanyah tied her hand to slow the spread of the venom and made her way to a private hospital in Lugbe, Abuja.
On arrival, she was reportedly told that the facility did not have anti-venom and could not treat her.
She then arranged another ride to the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja in search of help.
Kingsley explained that he stayed on the phone with his sister throughout the journey, noting that she was fully conscious and speaking clearly as she moved between hospitals.
When she arrived at the second hospital shortly before 10 am, she was taken into the emergency unit.
He said medical staff began asking questions and later placed her on a drip after removing the cloth she had tied around her hand.
Not long after this, her condition reportedly worsened as she became dizzy and her speech became unclear.
By this time, a family member had arrived at the hospital to be with her.
Despite efforts to save her, Nanyah did not survive.
Her brother has dismissed claims that she arrived late at the hospital or was unable to speak properly, insisting that she sought help early and was stable while being transported.
He blamed her de@th on delays and lack of proper treatment, describing the situation as a painful failure of the healthcare system.
He wrote on his Instagram story: “Ify called me yesterday morning… at about 8:30 am. She says ‘Emy don’t panic but I have just been bitten by a snake I’m on my way to the hospital.’ I realize that wasn’t the time to ask too many questions so I cut the call and called her back with my smaller phone immediately. Divine Health Hospital Trade Mall Road, Lugbe Abuja.
“That was the first hospital she went to and when she got there they immediately said they didn’t have the anti-venom and could not help her. Note that while all this was happening I was still on a call with her, never hung up, and she was speaking fine with me.
“When she got to the second hospital she went into the emergency department and these guys started bombarding her with questions. The doctor removed the stuff she used to tie her hands to avoid the circulation of the venom and kept telling her to calm down. When the drip was in she started feeling dizzy and her tongue wasn’t speaking well again. She came in by herself with both legs without any help, I was speaking with her through it all, she was very audible.
“Why did they remove the stuff she tied to prevent the spread of the venom? Told her to calm down and proceed to put a drip? The hospital failed her and doubled down to lie also about everything. I hate the country so much. We had such a great time together in Abuja this past Christmas. How was I to know it would be the last time with you.”
