Nanyah, who d!ed after being bitten by a large snake in her compound, was reportedly turned away by two hospitals due to a lack of anti-venom, despite her rapidly deteriorating condition.

The family of late Enugu-based singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has narrated the tragic events leading to her de@th following a snake bite, alleging delays and negligence by neighbours and healthcare providers.

Nanyah, who d!ed after being bitten by a large snake in her compound, was reportedly turned away by two hospitals due to a lack of anti-venom, despite her rapidly deteriorating condition.

Her sister-in-law, Blessing Oduche, speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, lamented what she described as a cascade of avoidable failures, from the initial response to hospital delays.

“The snake is not a small snake. It is a big snake. After the bite, they were looking for the snake, and Ifunanya was still there,” Blessing said.

Blessing narrated that security personnel in the compound where the late singer resided failed to recognise the urgency of the situation.

“I do not know if the security guys in our compound did not know that it was an emergency because they did not carry her immediately.

“They suspended attending to her to find the snake. So they took time looking for the snake,” she said.

She added that by the time help came, more precious minutes had been lost due to a failed car ignition attempt, further delaying Nanyah’s trip to the hospital.

According to her, Nanyah eventually managed to get on a motorcycle to Divine Health Clinic, but the facility referred her elsewhere after discovering they lacked the necessary treatment.

“She carried the hand, and she was running towards the gate. The distance from her house to the gate is lengthy, but she carried her hands to the gate notwithstanding,” Blessing said.

She said the singer was first bitten around 8:30 to 9:00 pm, but it wasn’t until 10:00 pm, over 90 minutes later, that she reached the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), where she was eventually pronounced de@d.
