Mark urged Akpabio to speak solely for the National Assembly rather than for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

David Mark, the Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has fired back at Senate President Godswill Akpabio over comments on the ongoing debate surrounding the Electoral Act Amendment.

He stated this while speaking on Saturday at the launch of “The Burdens of Legislators in Nigeria,” a book by former Senator Effiong Bob, at the Nigerian Air Force Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja.

Mark urged Akpabio to speak solely for the National Assembly rather than for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He emphasized that the public’s primary demand is the introduction of real-time electronic transmission of election results.

Mark stated, “Let INEC decide whether they can do it or not. Don’t speak for INEC. Speak for the National Assembly. What the public wants is, let there be electronic transmission. If INEC cannot do it, that is their problem, not ours.”

He described the disagreement over INEC’s capacity as a secondary, tangential issue, insisting that the focus should remain on passing the law to allow electronic transmission of results.
