It explained that NAFDAC only issues targeted safety alerts or recalls when specific batches of medicines are found to be substandard, falsified, or otherwise compromised.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has debunked a viral video falsely claiming that the antibiotic amoxicillin has been secretly banned in Nigeria.

In a statement, the agency clarified that amoxicillin remains approved for use nationwide and has not been prohibited.

It explained that NAFDAC only issues targeted safety alerts or recalls when specific batches of medicines are found to be substandard, falsified, or otherwise compromised.

NAFDAC stressed that such actions are routine regulatory measures aimed at protecting public health and should not be interpreted as a blanket ban on any medicine.

The agency urged healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical stakeholders, and the public to disregard the misleading claims and to verify information through its official communication channels before sharing.

NAFDAC further advised Nigerians to rely on updates published on its verified platforms to avoid panic and misinformation concerning essential medicines.
