Samson Itodo has suggested that Nigeria’s upcoming elections could be postponed to January.

Itodo made this statement on Monday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’.

He was speaking on the schedule of the 2027 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Recall that INEC last week announced the timetable and schedule for the 2027 general election, which has drawn reactions from various quarters of Nigeria with some asking the Commission to reconsider the the date.

Reacting, Itodo said, “We must recognise that we’re a secular state. I have concerns that altering timelines for elections based on religious considerations might box us into a difficult situation.

“Some referenced dates aren’t static; they always change. If we’re considering reforms, elections will likely hold in January or after Christian and Muslim fasting periods.”
