Ezeh condemned the alleged decision by the Federal Government to reverse the ban on the production and retail distribution of alcoholic beverages in sachets and small-volume containers below 200ml.

Pharmacists, under the umbrella of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), have urged the federal government to impose a total ban on the production and sale of sachet alcohol.

ACPN noted that this was necessary to safeguard public health.

ACPN National Chairman, Pharmacist Ambrose Ezeh, made this declaration in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

Ezeh condemned the alleged decision by the Federal Government to reverse the ban on the production and retail distribution of alcoholic beverages in sachets and small-volume containers below 200ml.

He said that the directive originally issued by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) was firmly rooted in evidence-based harm-reduction principles and child-protection objectives.

According to him, “The prohibition of sachet alcohol should not be treated as a symbolic regulatory exercise”.
