A dissatisfied resident of Kanam Local Government Area in Plateau State, Tarub Salim Dugub, has accused the council chairman, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, of neglecting the community and leaving residents vulnerable to terrorists and bandits while residing in Jos, the state capital.
According to Dugub, the council boss is supposed to be the chief security officer and should live among the people.
He said the chairman and only pays what he described as “condolence visits” whenever communities are attacked and people killed.
Dugub, who described himself as a concerned citizen of Kanam in an open letter to Hon. Musa on Tuesday, February 17, said he was deeply worried over the current security situation following another attack carried out by suspected Fulani bandits on Monday evening at Garga town in the council, where several people were killed, others injured and houses burnt down.
In the open letter titled “Hon. Ayuba Salihu Musa, it’s time to return to your people,” Dugub lamented that Kanam communities were facing daily attacks and killings while the Chairman had failed to act because he stayed away from the people he was elected to serve.
“Hon. Ayuba Salihu Musa, as the Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council, while you remain in Jos, your presence as Chief Security Officer is urgently needed,” Dugub said.
He stressed that the waves of violent attacks and killing of residents in the council by terrorists demands the immediate return and constant presence of the Chairman to reassure the people that he cares for them.
Continuing, Dugub said: “As the Chief Security Officer of Kanam LGC, your foremost duty is to protect the lives and ensure safety of your people, not to stay away while insecurity continues unchecked.
“Your prolonged stay in Jos, without full awareness of what is happening on the ground in Kanam, must end now. Leadership is measured by presence and action, especially during times of crisis.
“It is deeply troubling that while others remain close to their people, you have spent months away from Kanam at a time when lives are being threatened daily. The people who voted and trusted you are calling on you to step up, see the reality on the ground, and act.
“Garga Area and other parts of Kanam Local Government urgently need justice, protection, and visible leadership. Your presence will allow for proper coordination of security efforts, direct engagement with stakeholders, and accurate reporting to His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, so decisive action can be taken immediately.
“In times of fear and uncertainty, absence from leadership breeds discouragement and loss of hope among the people. Citizens expect reassurance, direct engagement, and practical solutions from those elected to serve them.
“Effective security management cannot be done from afar. Your return will restore confidence, strengthen collaboration with security agencies, and show that the government truly stands with its people.”
