Popular Nigerian skit maker Carter Efe has revealed why he no longer attends church, explaining that he feels uncomfortable with how some pastors interact with their congregants.

During a livestream on Twitch, the entertainer said he became uncomfortable with how certain religious leaders form close ties with church members and later begin to ask them for money.

According to him, the relationship may start in a friendly way, with frequent calls and warm gestures, but it can later turn into repeated financial requests for personal needs.

He explained that in some cases, a pastor may begin by asking for small support, such as money for fuel or food items, and over time continue to collect money from the same person.

He said this pattern made him afraid and pushed him away from attending church services.

He said: “Pastor go dey show you love dey call you for afternoon and evening. Before you know pastor go dey tell you say ‘can you give me money for fuel?’ before you know pastor go tell you say ‘i want to cook beans, I need oil’.

"Before you know pastor go dey collect money for your hand na why I dey fear. Na why I no dey go church. I dey fear all this pastors, if them turn you to friend, them go just dey collect money for your hand…”
