Legal practitioner Inibehe Effiong has expressed doubt that the current federal government intends to prosecute former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai over allegations of phone tapping.

Effiong said this on Tuesday when he featured in an interview on Channels Television’s ‘The Morning Brief’.

He was speaking on the phone-tapping allegations against El-Rufai.

Recall that El-Rufai admitted that he and others listened to the telephone conversations of the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu after tapping his phone.

The act has received many criticisms from various quarters, including the presidency saying that the former governor must be prosecuted.

Reacting, however, Effiong said, “I don’t believe this government wants to prosecute El-Rufai based on what he said. I think this is just political theatrics.

“As of yesterday, when this charge was filed, the State Security Service had not spoken to El-Rufai. In which serious jurisdiction do you file a charge without interrogating the suspect,” he asked.
